The facilities were clean and this location is in close proximity to town and nearby mountain biking trails. This lot is near the highway, but the noise wasnt bad. This is a rest stop with flush toilets and river access. They have one combination of swimming and fishing beach but there is no lifeguard on duty, so swim at your own risk.Dispersed camping on the Oregon coast | Thor’s Well, Tide Pools, & a GREAT campsite There also have some water activities here. They have five shaded pavilions with 12 wooden picnic tables. But there are a few different things at this location. This campground is about the same as the day use area as far as the fees go. Haystack West Shore Campground and Day Use Area: RV parking is available up to 32 feet, and there is a water filling station but no hookups or dumping facilities. ![]() They also have two horseshoe pits that are available. There are one wooden picnic table and one combination fire ring/grill per campsite. I forgot to mention that Redmond Oregon is 21.5 miles south of the reservoir General Notes:Ĭampground camping there are 24 standard campsites. Turn right onto Forest Service Road 9605. Turn right onto Springer Road (Forest Service Road 7130/ Forest Service Road 96) and proceed approximately 1.5 miles. Haystack Campground will be on the left and the road will end at the day use area.Įxit Laurel Lane (Forest Service Road 96) and head west for approximately 4 miles. Turn right onto Springer Road (Forest Service Road 7130/ Forest Service Road 96) then proceed approximately 2.5 miles (you will pass West Shore and South Shore Campgrounds). Restroom: They do have Vault Toilets Passes:Ĭamping: They do offer a 50% discount for single site camping only with any of these passes: Interagency Senior, Interagency Access, Golden Age, or Golden Access. Water: Drinking water is available at one water fill station There is a 14 day stay limit on all National Grassland and US Forest Service land including but not limited to campgrounds and other developed facilities.Ĭlosest Towns: Madras, Oregon or Prineville, Oregon, and Redmond Oregon There is also a day use fee: of $5 per vehicle or group. Fees:Ĭamping fees are for each site per night they are $15.00 for first vehicle and $6.00 for each additional vehicle. Haystack Reservoir is a popular fishing spot for a variety of species, including kokanee, rainbow trout, largemouth bass, black crappie, and brown bullhead catfish. They do have a boat ramp, Tent camping, Camping trailer, Picnic tables, Toilets, Drinking water, and Parking. If you would like to make a reservation you can call 1-87 or visit. Reservations can be made up to 6 months in advance, but not less than 1 day in advance. There will be more information on those later. Whatever your pleasure might be on the grasslands, Haystack Reservoir is a great place to camp. There are also nearby trails to accommodate for all of you hikers and mountain bikers as well. By the way, if you’re getting hungry you might cast a line and you may get a bite and catch dinner. ![]() Then on the hot summer days , you can cool off in the water of the reservoir. ![]() It also has juniper trees, and you can catch glimpses of the beautiful Three Sisters in the distance. It is located on the eastern shore of Haystack Reservoir and is surrounded by native vegetation including sagebrush. And it also offers the most amenities to visitors to this area. Haystack reservoir is one of the premier campgrounds in the scenic high desert of the Crooked River National Grasslands.
